The Administrator, Grace Schools, Gbagada, Mrs Tokunbo Edun, has called on corporate organisations and public-spirited individuals to show more commitment to social responsibility initiatives to alleviate the sufferings of the less privileged in the country.

Edun who made this known, recently in Lagos, said a huge gap exists between the rich and the poor which has given rise to more out of school children in the country.

She called on corporate organisations and other individuals to provide scholarships for the indigent students in the country, adding that her school has over the years focused on being a good corporate citizen through its social responsibility initiatives.

“The citadel of learning had deepened its brand equity through various CSR schemes it introduced to create positive impact on the society. Grace Schools has a strong focus in contributing its quota to the upliftment of the society where it operates. We have continued to provide annual educational scholarship to indigent students to enable them have access to qualitative education regardless of their educational background. This is one area the school becomes socially responsible through scholarships to the less privileged in the society,” she said.

The administrator hinted that the scholarship which is worth over N1million per session, covers tuition, books, uniforms, boarding fees and pocket money and even extends to their university education.

She noted that over 30 students have benefitted from the awards since its inception in 2004 with over N100 million invested so far in the scheme by the school.

“We also support them after their secondary education in Grace schools and up to the university level. This we do paying their university fees, accommodation and giving them a monthly stipend.”
