CAF Hammer Falls on Ghanaian Refs, Others

One banned for life, others get 10-year ban respective­ly

The Confederat­ion of African Football ( CAF) yesterday descended heavily on 11 Ghanaian referees and assistants indicted in a corruption allegation with David Laryea getting life ban from football.

CAF also slammed six other officials with 10-year suspension­s from football activities in a new round of sanctions to clean up officiatin­g the game in the continent.

Apart from Laryea, CAF also banned Lathbridge Reginal, Nantierre Eric, Fleischer Cecil, Ouegraogo Dawood, Salifu Malik, Akongysm Theresa (woman assistant referee) and Wellington Joseph (technical instructor) all from Ghana FA for 10 years each.

Another set of referes suspended pending when they will appear before the disciplina­ry committee board of CAF in their next meeting include: Bello Aboudou (Rep of Benin), Baba Leno ( Guinea), Aderito Marida Silva (Guinea Bissau), Dauda Guaye ( Senegal), Yamba Arnad Gildas ( Congo), Biase Boutamba (Congo), Hamada Nampiandra­za (Madagascar,) Kokolo Fitial Charel ( Congo) while the trio of Adii Prosper, Anafo Nathan, Badiu Ibrahim all from Ghana complete the list.

Only few weeks to the last World Cup finals in Russia, the GFA President, Kwesi Nyantakyi, was forced to step down following allegation of bribery after been caught on tape receiving cash to influence a match which is against the FIFA ethics and his position in CAF Executive Committee was filled by the President of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick during the last meeting of the continenta­l football body at the Mundial.

Kenyan linesman Marwa Range, who had been due to officiate at this year’s World Cup in Russia was filmed receiving a $600 bribe during this year’s African Nations Championsh­ip (CHAN) in Morocco and was given a life ban.

Range, a reserve official at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, had earlier been removed from the list of referees for this year’s tournament in Russia.
