I Will Not Pay Half Salaries, Says Adeleke

Governorsh­ip candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, yesterday promised to stop payment of half salaries if elected governor of the state.

Speaking at the All Soul Anglican Church, Osogbo, yesterday, Adeleke decried the suffering of civil servants which he described as man inhumanity to man saying “I will put an end to half salary.

According to him, “My government will ensure regular payment of workers’ salaries and pensioners’ entitlemen­ts .We will not owe workers. It is inhuman. A labourer deserves his or her pay. Public servants will enjoy good life under our government.

“Teachers’ welfare is a condition for better education results. Enabling environmen­t will be provided for teachers to deliver on teaching and learning outcomes” he said.

Adeleke vowed to serve the people and place people’s welfare above all considerat­ions, noting that “I will be a governor of the people, by the people and for the people.

“God will use me to put an end to the suffering of Osun people. I will stop punitive taxes and levies .I will relax mobile courts due to suffering and pains of the people. Artisans and local traders would be patronised. I will not export our job to Lagos. “

In his church sermon, the officiatin­g pastor, Venerable W.Ojebode, prayed for the success of the candidate, stating that “the state needs a God fearing leader.

“We pray for your success. We pray the Lord will use you to take Osun to greater heights “.

However, the church yesterday received unusual visitors as thousands of Okada riders and passerby stormed the premises, chanting ‘Imole, Imole’, meaning the Light is the governor we are waiting for. The African Union Economic, Social and Cultural Council (AUECOSOCC) has commended the Osun State Government for meeting the requiremen­t set by the (AU) agenda 2063 programme for infrastruc­ture developmen­t in Nigeria.

The regional body noted that each of the Osun social protection projects is in-line with the four key-critical sectors like education, transport and road networks, informatio­n and communicat­ion technology of the African Union.

This was even as the AU honoured Governor Rauf Aregbesola with an award of excellence in good governance and physical infrastruc­tural, capital and human developmen­ts in the state.

The leadership of the AU-ECOSOCC gave the commendati­on at the weekend during a courtesy visit to Governor Aregbesola after the completion of the organisati­on’s three-day Agenda 2063 Advocacy Project Inspection Tour of Osun, at Government House, Osogbo.

The organisati­on commended Osun infrastruc­tural developmen­t, saying it is second to none in the country.

The AU-ECOSOCC representa­tive in Nigeria, Tunji John Asaolu, lauded the Aregbesola’s government for paying adequate attention to details of the African Union as reflected in the various developmen­ts the state had witnessed in the last seven and half years of his administra­tion.

Asaolu who was accompanie­d by the AU-ECOSOCC Head of Secretaria­t in Nigeria, Ambassador Chinwe Maduke; the Ambassador of Antigua Barbudi in Nigeria, Ambassador Wallace Williams and AUECOSOCC Attaché, Mrs Kamsi Onyeuche, said Aregbesola has breathed light to governance through his monumental achievemen­ts.

He described the Osun infrastruc­tural developmen­t as unpreceden­ted in the history of any state in Nigeria and Africa, saying Osun had recorded giant strides worthy of emulation.

Asaolu said the organisati­on is proud of the Aregbesola’s achievemen­ts in all sectors, feats he described as unpreceden­ted in the history of the state, Nigeria and Africa.
