Despite Court Injunction, PDP Dissolves Kano State Exco

- Ibrahim Shuaibu

Despite an order of court restraining the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP from tampering with Kano State Executive structure, the party yesterday went ahead to dissolve it and in its place, appointed a caretaker committee.

A statement by PDP National Spokesman, Mr. Kola Ologbodiyan said the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party at the end of its meeting on Thursday, August 23, 2018, dissolved the Kano State Executive Committee of the party with immediate effect. It also appointed caretaker committee to oversee the affairs of the party but promised to release the details later.

A Kano High Court had earlier restrained the National Headquarters of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its National Chairman, Uche Secondus, from tempering or disfiguring the existing State Executive structure of the party under its elected Chairman, Senator Masaud Jibrin El-Doguwa.

The trial Judge, Justice N. S Umar in his ruling ordered that the applicants and the respondents should maintain the status quo ante, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.

In the same vein, the Judge said in his ruling on the case as filed by El-Doguwa that an order of interim injunction was further granted restraining any other person or persons from interfering or tempering with the tenure of the existing leadership structure of PDP in Kano.

The Judge added that on behalf of the 1st and 2nd Respondents, Senator Jibrin El-Doguwa and the PDP, the Court restrained any other person or persons from disturbing and or intimidating the administration of the State, Local Government areas or ward officers from doing anything or taking any steps that were likely to interfere with or disturb the officers tenure which are protected under section 47 (1) and section 223(1) (a) of the 1999 constitution.

Justice Umar ordered the applicants to serve the 1st and 2nd Respondents the originating process outside the jurisdiction of his Court at Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

He then fixed 5th November 2018 to hear the motion on notice.

Some people who recently defected to the party in Kano are allegedly making frantic efforts to alter the existing leadership structure of the party in Kano State so that they would have 65 per cent share of the new structure if put in place.
