The Principal of Redeemer’s International Secondary School, Maryland, Lagos, Mrs. Feyisara Osinupebi, has assured parents that the school will continue to break new grounds and surpass its achievements as it moves to a new school building.

Speaking during the dedication of the new school building by wife of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Mrs. Folu Adeboye, the principal said the school was established in 1996 to bring up young men and women with integrity, hard work, teachable spirits, as well as excellent Christians “that will affect our community and larger society positively- to be Christians not only in words, but in deeds.”

According to her, over the 22 years of existence, its graduates are making a difference within and outside the shores of Nigeria. “We have among many awards and firsts, won the National Science Olympiad and led the Nigerian team to Jakarta and Germany in 2005 and 2008, while winning the world bronze medal in 02005.

“We invented a Termicide from cashew shells named TRISS for the Schlumberger SEED competition… After presenting and defending our project, our first attempt was our winning attempt. Our prize apart from an upgrade of the ICT room, took our students to the headquarters of Schlumberger in France.”

Osinupebi added that the school has been part of the Junior Achievement programme for over 20 years. “In 2017, we won the company of the year award in Lagos and came third in Nigeria. In 2015, we received the International School Award from the British Council and became full members of the Council of British International Schools ( COBIS).

“In the same year, we received the award for the best result across eight subjects and best result in Geography, Biology and ICT in the Cambridge IGCSE examinations. In 2016, the school received the award for the best result in WASSCE and came second in West Africa.”

While comparing the two buildings, she said: “Where we were coming from was not purpose built, but we did the best that we could, but the new building is purpose built therefore the focus of the students is better; they feel happier because they are in a standard school building.”

While dedicating the new building, Mrs. Ade- boye thanked members of the board of governors for standing by the school over the years; the teachers for making good use of the old place and parents for supporting the school.

According to her, with about 300 schools across the country, she said she has not fully achieved her aim of setting up schools, as she hopes to have more schools and “we are trusting God that more than half of the children in this country will know Jesus and they will serve the country.”

On how youths can stay safe this election period, she said: “Children should not join in any form of violence because they are heritage of God and they are of the lord and God is not interested in any violence and as a result, they must behave themselves and only pray for the salvation of our country.”
