Shettima, Ndume, Kyari Win Senate Seats

Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima, has been elected senator to represent Borno Central in the next Senate.

He defeated the Special Adviser on Assembly Matters to Presidents Umar Yar’Adua and Goodluck Jonathan. He also represente­d Borno Central in the Senate between 2003 and 2007.

Declaring the result at INEC office in Maiduguri at about 2a.m. yesterday, the Returning Officer, Professor Yusuf Yusuf of the University of Maiduguri, said Shettima polled 340,898 votes with his closest opponent Mohammed Abba-Aji of the PDP polling 75, 509 votes.

Also, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume of the APC has been elected and returned to Senate for Borno South district for the third time.

Ndume garnered 300,637 to beat others with his closest opponent, Satumari Kudla, of the PDP polling 84,608. In a result declared by Prof. Isa Hassan, incumbent Senator for Borno North, Abubakar Kyari of the APC, was returned. He defeated others with Hon. Isa Lawan of the PDP coming second.

Meanwhile, the APC has won all the ten House of Representa­tives seats in the state.In the House of Representa­tives, the incumbent member representi­ng Maiduguri Metropolit­an Council, Hon. AbdulKadir Rahis, polled 93,497 votes to be returned defeating others with his closest opponent, Abdulsalaa­m Kachallah, polling 60,132 votes.
