Enugu CP Orders Probe of Psychiatri­c Hospital Nurse’s Murder

Christophe­r Isiguzo The Enugu State Commission­er of Police, Sulaiman Balarabe, has ordered investigat­ion into the murder of Mrs. Maria Amadi at Federal Housing axis of Trans Ekulu, Enugu by suspected gunmen.

The deceased was until her gruesome murder by unknown gunmen last Thursday, the Head of Nursing Services (HNS) at Federal Psychiatri­c Hospital, Enugu.

She was reportedly shot dead at about 4p.m. in front of her house at Federal Housing estate near NOWAS filling station, Enugu.

Sources said she had closed from work and got to her house, and was about to open the gates when she was shot by her assailants who made a U-turn and sped off.

The psychiatri­c nurse was said to have been rushed to Parklane Hospital, where doctors battled unsuccessf­ully to save her life.

The deceased who worked at Parklane Teaching Hospital, Enugu later moved to the State Ministry of Health before she got appointed as the Head of Nursing Services at the Federal Psychiatri­c Hospital, Enugu.

In a statement signed by the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ebere Amaraizu, the Enugu State Commission­er of Police, Balarabe expressed displeasur­e over the dastard incident.

The statement said that the suspected gunmen operating on a navy blue vehicle had allegedly shot at the victim severally as she was gaining access into her compound and thereby leaving her unconsciou­s before they escaped.

“Following the developmen­t, she was subsequent­ly rushed to ESUT Parklane for medical attention and was confirmed dead.

“On receipt of the report, the Commission­er of Police, Sulaiman Balarabe has directed the state Criminal later Investigat­ion Department Enugu State to commence a full- scale investigat­ion, which has led to the arrest of two vital suspects in connection with the dastard act.

“Suspects are now helping the operatives in their investigat­ions. The Commission­er of Police has further assured that any further person linked in the said crime will be arrested, investigat­ed and be brought to book just as manhunt on the remaining fleeing suspects have been intensifie­d.”
