MOUNIR GWARZO – SWEET VICTORY!

-

Well in the middle of this wahala this fine gentleman had reached out to me. He wanted to discuss the issues surrounding his problems and needed a detached mind. What a lot of people don’t know is that Mounir and I have come a long way. We were young greenhorn stockbrokers together but him get money pass me o. That time my salary na N2,700 a month. Then we met again at Habib Bank under the great leadership of my lord for life – Mr. Akin Kekere Ekun. So you will understand my more than passing interest in this matter. We talked for hours and I even did a small piece asking for a dispassionate look at his matter. The jury was out amongst the community of stockbrokers on this matter. Some were of the opinion that he really had it coming with the way he ran the markets especially the effects on Foreign Investors while others were of the opinion that he was doing a fine job. Anyways, when the House of Reps summoned both him and the then minister of finance, I wrote a piece hailing his performance and declaring him the victor as his answers were very clear and devoid of the usual muddiness that characterize such exchanges between government officials and the people. So you will understand that I especially did not expect anything less from the courts. The man was innocent all the while. So this victory is a victory for transparency, good governance and all that is good for our markets. The Capital Market is an engine for growth of the economy and even though some of us have run

away we still watch the market very closely as it impacts on the real economy. Well done my brother, I remain happy that you have emerged victorious. Just go bath, rest and sleep, you will be ok. Nothing you do.
