The Other Side of Segun Opeke
There is no gainsaying the banking sector is like a wilderness riddled with storms. But despite its inherent dangers, a few daring bankers navigate through with a stubborn resolve and unyielding spirit, like bog-hardened seekers. That relentless spirit often pays off. It guides them through periods of quagmires of global commerce till they emerge, victorious in spirit and resolve, like the champions they set out to become.
Dedication and fighting spirit are qualities many do not acquire without years of experience and failure, but for Segun Opeke, they are irremovable parts of his DNA, as natural as breathing. While others shrink into their anonymous cocoons when the storms of the business world come knocking, Segun boldly embraces the struggle. He wages war on the elements and bends inclement business climates to his iron will.
The Directorate Head at Nigeria’s newest bank Polaris is like an engine programmed to perform without unnecessary noise. Each part and lever set precisely to complement one another, heart and mind and will moving in unison to form an unstoppable whole. And like the machine Segun is born for what he does: nobody embraces the joys of work like he does. Not for him the routine frolic and secret dereliction of duty like some of his peers. For Segun, it is duty above all else. Since his ascension he has reduced what was a mountain of lingering issues facing the bank to little more than a pile of stones.
Since taking up the mantle as directorate head, Lagos Business at Skye (now Polaris), Segun’s singular qualities of hard-nosed dedication and single-minded focus on meeting set targets has won him admirers among his peers and Financial regulators alike. Little wonder he was able to emerge unblemished and untouched from the recent shake-up which retired the Skye name and brought Polaris into existence.
