Davido’s Co-manager, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin Transits from Entertainment to Politics
Superstar singer Davido’s former comanager, Debo Ogundoyin, has achieved a feat unheard of in the hallowed annals of the nation, emerging the speaker of the Oyo State house of assembly at the young age of 32. Having left the entertainment industry two years ago for full-fledged politics. What an impact he has made in such a short time!
The young man who represents Ibarapa East constituency emerged speaker of the Oyo house of assembly. Who would have guessed that a man as young and new in politics as Adebo could defeat veteran politicians in the last perliamentary elections? Not only that, despite his tender years in comparison with some of the fellow members of the newly inaugurated house, he was able to emerge speaker without as much as one voice of dissent.
Astonishingly, Adebo is the only lawmaker that was returned to the state house of assembly out of the 26 members elected on the platform of the PDP. While tides of electoral change swept away a majority of the previous legislators that bid for re-election, his youth and relative spotlessness proved the magic formula that returned him to the chambers.
The motion to make him the youngest speaker in Nigerian history was moved by Hon. Adebayo Babajide who represents Ibadan North Constituency and supported by Hon Adeola Bamidele, from Iseyin/ Itesiwaju Local Government. With no hand raised in opposition, he was thereafter sworn in by the house of assembly clerk Mrs Felicia Oyediran amidst an atmosphere of harmony and camaraderie that seldom pervades such high-stakes political gatherings.
Does this man hail from a family of politicians? Digging deeply into Adebo’s background, it was found out that he is one of the sons of the late chief Adeseun Ogundoyin, a philanthropist and industrialist. Having relinquished his comanagement of DMW rapper Oremo two years ago, Hon Adebo won the Ibarapa East by-election in June, 2018, a position left open due to the death of the late speaker of the 8th Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt, Hon. Michael Adeyemo.
Hon Adebo Ogundoyin in his excitement promised to run an open door policy in order to avoid any form of skepticism among lawmakers and also between the legislature and executive. He was a picture of geniality and humility as he sought the support of his comrades and the new state governor Seyi Makinde who was also in attendance to witness the history-making occasion.
Trust Davido, he was not about to allow such good news to pass by without adding his voice to the chorus of congratulations. He posted a congratulatory post on social media site, Instagram, while there will no doubt be some private hailing and backslapping involved the next time their paths cross.
