THISDAY

TONYE COLE – I THANK YOU

-

At times, it is good not to listen to advice. Everybody had advised me against producing this Jude Idada’s psycho erotic play which featured nudity, sex toys and a lot of things you don’t say during the day. When NBC suspended AIT, I almost fainted for fear that they will now come and suspend me too. Finding the funds was something else. Everybody said no until I found Pay Attitude and Timekeeprs who believed in the story line and its importance in strengthening our relationships and by extension, strengthening society, came to my support. Mbok come and see crowd. The Hall was filled to the rafters. Everybody came, senators, bank MDs, federal court judges and so many prominent Nigerians including ordinary Nigerians. I lost money because I had given out so much complimentary tickets. I locked myself in the toilet and cried when I realized that Nigerians had kept faith with this vision although not with their pockets but with faith. They gave us a standing applause, they hugged and celebrated with us the whole 4,000 people that came out to watch the play. I thanked them and cried some more in the toilet again. I cried like three times in the toilet. Duke cannot cry in public o, that one go pass NBC suspension sef. And then Tonye Cole that tall fine man walked up to me and hugged me and said thank you, send me your details. That night I prayed for him o. I prayed for his safety, I prayed that EFCC should not catch him that night, I prayed that DSS should miss the way to his house and that rain should not fall in case flood catch him. The next morning he dropped a bomb on me. Thank you, my brother. Because of people like you and the rest, the arts will keep bringing solace to our lives. Mbok come the next one o.
