- Oluchi Chibuzor

The African industries Group (AIG) in its bid to help create awareness on the importance of voluntary blood donation among its workers and society at large, has partnered with the Lagos State Blood Transfusion committee in an effort targeted at saving lives through the Blood Donation Camp Initiative.

A similar programme has also been carried out in other subsidiaries of the group like African Steel Mills Ikorodu and African Foundries Limited, Ogijo.

Speaking at the Blood Donation Camp to mark 2019 World Blood Donor Day with a theme, “Save a life Give Blood: Give Blood Give Life”, held recently in, Ogun state, the Chief Executive Officer, Steel and Projects, Agbara Complex, African Industries, Sohan Baghla said blood donation is the biggest gift to mankind and is more than money.

He said before any donation there is always an educational training for workers at the Blood Donation Camp, to enable donor to have adequate information on what it takes to give blood and the benefits, noting that one pint of blood saves three persons.

According to him, “Our company policy allows anybody to feel free to donate blood, which we have been doing for the second year now with over 200 pints of blood in all since we begin the Blood Donation Camp.

“As a law-abiding system incorporated organisation, we are committed in the overall well-being of our workers which is one of the reasons we organised this initiative to our workforce and the community to understand the significance of the exercise.

“Blood donation is more than money and is the biggest donation you can make towards saving the lives of other people in society and to the needy persons.”
