The Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) has warned that more states in the country would experience severe flooding as a result of heavy downpour.
The agency said that the prediction was based on the alarming rate of rainfall the country is experiencing presently.
The Director General of the agency, Dr. Clement Nze, disclosed this at a press conference yesterday in Abuja.
He faulted state governments for failing to heed to the agency’s previous warnings on floods released earlier in the year.
He called on state governments to prepare for more flooding by putting needed measures in place.
Nze stated categorically that river flooding would begin next month as a result of increase in water from rivers Niger and Benue.
Recently, incidents of flooding have been reported in several states across the country, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
