SARS, Anti-Kidnapping Operatives on Ekiti Highways

- Victor Ogunje

To forestall any case of kidnapping and threat to the lives of the citizens during Sallah celebration, the Ekiti State Police Command has deployed operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and Anti-Kidnapping and plain cloth policemen in all the 16 local government areas of the state. A statement by the Police Commissioner, Mr. Asuquo Amba in Ado Ekiti yesterday, said large scale and covert policemen had been strategically deployed across the length and breadth of the state with a clear mandate of ensuring crime free Sallah celebration. He said men of Special units such as SARS, PMF, Rapid Response Team, Intelligence units, anti-kidnapping and cultism sections had also been deployed to nip in the bud any violent crime that may want to rear its ugly head.

“Twenty four hours surveillance patrols have also been ordered around the various praying ground as well as event/recreation centres across the state. All our highways are being properly patroled to ensure that travelers plying the roads are well secured.”

The CP while felicitating with Muslims faithful and the people of Ekiti State enjoined them “to reflect on the reasons for the Sallah celebration and be good ambassadors of Islam by ensuring peace at all times. “I appeal to members of the public to alert the police and other security agencies whenever they notice any strange movements or suspicious faces gathering in their domain. I enjoin the general public to be security conscious and vigilant.”

However, the Director General, Buhari/Osinbajo Campaign Council in Ekiti State, Dr. Olusegun Osinkolu, has charged Muslims, to in the spirit of Sallah rededicate themselves to the service of the nation, by refraining from acts that could promote disunity.

The All Progressives Congress chieftain, appealed to Muslim brothers and sisters to always pray for the country at this period and to coalesce efforts with the governments to halt the malaise of kidnapping, killings and rising crimes in our society.
