HOW TO MOVE NIGERIA FORWARD

-

Having observed from the sidelines for a while, I feel constrained to draw the attention of our compatriot to the fact that two categories of Nigerians are drawing our dear country, Nigeria to this near precipice we find ourselves today.

These two classes of people have views that have not helped matters since the inception of Buhari administration. They are “The Buharists and anti-Buharists elements.

I have taken my time to listen, read and monitor the reactions of most Nigerians who belong to these two categories even on different social media platforms and I am compelled to make the following submissions. Let me begin with the people I call Buharits. In this category, we have die-hard citizens who believe the President is infallible. According to them, the president they know is so impeccable in character that he can neither sin nor make mistakes. The most fanatical and vocal ones in this category want us to take all that the president says hook, line and sinker. If anybody questions any policy from the government that one feels uncomfortable with such a person is not only seen to be unpatriotic but subversive.

The second category which is equally dangerous to our national interest is the category that will never see anything good in the president. In this category are election losers, tribal champions, etc., who did not fare better when they were in government. In this group are people who will never give kudos to the president where he deserves and equally give him knocks where he fails.

Furthermore, let me add that the activities of these two extremes have made life unbearable for their compatriots who are caught in this crossfire. It is therefore imperative that we call these two groups to order.

Consequently, a word of advice to the Buharists and their fanatical supporters would suffice. President Muhammadu Buhari is an elected president of the country and his stewardship must be subjected to scrutiny. Once he is constructively criticized, there should not be any misgiving about that.

As the president of the most populous country on earth, his supporters should help him to deliver and promptly act on his campaign promises. Governance is not a walk in the park and the Nigerian leader must take governance to the next level and not more rhetoric. Jideofor Paul, Abuja
