The federal government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) are heading to collision, which may disrupt academic activities in the universities as the Accountant General of the Federation, Mr. Ahmed Idris has directed the university lecturers to enroll in the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).

The academic union had vowed not to enroll into the scheme, alleging that it violates university autonomy.

But in an advertorial yesterday, Idris informed the union that the enrollment of federal universities and colleges of education into the scheme would commence on November 25 and end of December 7.

The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, directed all staff of federal universities and colleges of education “to present themselves for enrolment for the Integrated Payroll and

Personnel Information System.”

“All staff of federal universities and colleges of education in Nigeria are by this notice called upon to present themselves for enrollment into the Integrated Payroll and Personal Information System (IPPIS),” said the advertorial.

The notice added that the staff should among, others, bring their letters of first appointment, letter of last promotion, evidence of transfer of service (if any), birth certificate/declaration of age, educational qualifications, evidence of change of name (if any), copies of their bank statement.

According to the notice, officers of the IPPIS department in the office of the AGF would be in the institutions to conduct the exercise. ASUU had opposed the IPPIS scheme, saying the platform does not capture the peculiarities of the structure of the university system, which is flexible and pragmatic.

ASUU President, Prof. Abiodun Ogunyemi, had told THISDAY that the union would resist the scheme.
