The much anticipated Africa Magic reality TV show, Ultimate Love finally premiered on Sunday, February 9, and viewers are gradually getting the feel of the show.
The show which is centered on love and culture is a different script from what viewers are used to. First, there is no mysterious figure playing the omnipresent role, unlike in Big Brother Naija. Rather, the contestants who are known as love guests will have interaction with a known and visible figure known as Aunty on specific periods. For the maiden edition, renowned media personality Adesuwa Onyenokwe will play the iconic role.
The concept of the show also includes the love guests going on real life missions, having a one-way communication with their ‘parent figure’as well as having a feel of the outside world in the chat room. The parent figure is a person whom the love guest has a good relationship with and will provide support and guidance to the contestant throughout their stay in the house.
Like Big Brother Naija, Ultimate Love has its own unique features. For instance, the residence where the love guests will stay is known as the Love Pad.The facility is tastefully furnished to meet the needs of the show. Apart from Aunty, there are also the butlers who will be somewhat Aunty’s helping hands. They will read out instructions to the love guests and attend to their needs. The butlers consist of two males and two females.
They were introduced on Sunday night when actress and presenter Dakore Egbuson-Akande and Oluwaseun Olaniyan hosted the live show which will also double as the Check-Out show. Unlike in Big Brother where nominations take place on Monday nights, for Ultimate Love, nomination and evictions will happen on the Sunday live show with the final nominations announced on Tuesdays.
Now that we have familiarised ourselves with the concept of the show, let’s talk about the contestants in this season.
16 singles walked into the Love Pad on Sunday night and they are as diverse as you can imagine. There are architects, businessmen, teachers, media personalities; there are Igbo men and there are Americannahs; there are the dancers and the parents. Each of them came with their own unique quality that will keep fans glued to their seats for the duration of the show. The love guests are Arnold, Chris, Obichukwu, Kachi, Bolanle, Theresa, Iyke, Louis, Rosie, Cherry, David, Ebiteinye, Nkechi, Jay, Michael and Jenny Koko.
With just a few days in the house, the housemates are already showing their true colours. Some have already assumed roles. For instance, Cherry is known as the ‘mummy’ in the house, and Obichukwu seems to show some real Christian values in the manner which he analyses issues. Jay seems to have a different opinion from others and has a way of saying it while Louis thinks he will be a fantastic storyteller.
