Firm Sues Domino’s Pizza, Cold Stone Ice Cream over Alleged N34m Debt

-

Domino’s Pizza and Cold Stone Ice-Cream, foreign owned companies, have been dragged before a Lagos High Court over a N34 million debt.

A Nigerian company, Crompton Resources Limited, which is into building construction and allied matters with registered office address in Lagos, filed the suit against the foreign owned companies, alleging that they had refused to pay it a N34 million debt.

Crompton Resources Limited, in the suit filed through their Lawyer against Eat N Go Ltd (owners/ master franchise of Domino’s Pizza, Cold Stone Creamery), alleged that Eat N Go Ltd contracted it in 2018, to execute the construction of some of its outlets in Lagos.

According to Crompton Resources Limited, some of the outlets it constructed, equipped and furnished for Eat N Go Ltd includes outlets at 434, Old Ojo road, Satelite Town Lagos, 1 Ologolo Village road, Ologolo, Jakande, Lagos, and Iju Ishaga, Lagos State.

The construction firm stated that, upon completion of the outlets, Eat N Go Ltd refused to pay the contract sum balance of N34 million.

It stated further that, the total contract sum used for the construction of Domino’s Pizza/Cold Stone Creamery outlets was a loan facility it obtained, with the belief that, upon completion of the outlets, the loan sum would be liquidated.

Crompton Resources Ltd stated that, in a bid to further frustrate it, owners of Cold Stone ice-cream, wrote through their Lawyers acknowledging owing Crompton Resources Ltd, but requested that the matter be withdrawn from court before they can proceed to settle amicably.

The matter came up on March 3, 2020 but could not proceed, as the court did not sit. It has further been adjourned till May 5, 2020.

The Claimant condemned the conduct of Eat N Go Ltd as not just reprehensible, but unbecoming of a company owned, controlled and managed by foreigners.
