Makinde Approves 8 Roads for Rehabilita­tion, Reconstruc­tion

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, has approved for immediate rehabilita­tion and reconstruc­tion of eight roads in various zones of the state.

The state Commission­er for Public Works and Transport, Prof. Raphael Afonja, who made the disclosure yesterday, said infrastruc­tural developmen­t remained a key focus of the present administra­tion.

A statement made available by the commission­er quoted the governor as saying that his administra­tion was prepared to ensure the uplift of infrastruc­ture in state, adding that the government would ensure that adequate attention is given to road infrastruc­ture that target the economic expansion drive of the state.

The statement further indicated that the determinat­ion to ensure infrastruc­tural growth in the state informed the decision of Governor Makinde to devote a large chunk of the 2020 budget (23.93 per cent) to that sector.

It also reinstated the decision of the administra­tion to institute a culture of quality road constructi­on in the state, adding that the government was ready to build roads that would stand the test of time.

According to the statement, the present administra­tion in Oyo State has a 20-year plan for road sustainabi­lity in the State.

The statement read in part, "Governor Seyi Makinde has also given approval for reconstruc­tion of failed hydraulic structures in different geographic­al zones across the state.
