Gombe Spends N524m, Closes State Borders

Gombe State Governor, Alhaji Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, has announced more stringent measures to be taken in containing the dreaded COVID-19 also known as Coronaviru­s in the state.

The governor, while addressing a press conference yesterday afternoon said the State Government had so far spent N524 million for activities aimed at containing the virus in the state.

The governor explained that, on Monday, he ordered the release of N28 million while N296 million was released to the State Taskforce committee on COVID-19 for procuremen­t of necessitie­s in containing the virus as well as N200 million to local government authoritie­s for the same purpose.

He explained further that due to the non-compliance of his earlier directives on closure of all schools in the state and limiting of social gatherings, the administra­tion took some measures which include, suspension of all interstate travels with effect from 12midnight on Sunday, 29th May, 2020.

According to him, the border closure, public gathering, travel for both public and private, clubbing, stood suspended till further notice while assuring that security personnel would supervise to ensure adherence.

Civil servants from grade levels 1 - 12 have also been asked to work from home for the next two weeks while only those on essential services like security men, health workers, power and water workers and the likes are allowed movement.
