Kwara Residents Comply with Stay at Home Order
Residents of Ilorin and other major towns in Kwara State yesterday complied with the state government order on stay at home as part of preventive measure to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the state.
The compliance with the order to stay at home by the residents according to THISDAY checks might not be unconnected with the deployment of men of the security agencies in the state like police, Civil Defence Corps among others to some of the areas of the state.
The state deputy governor, and Chairman Covid-19 Technical Committee, Mr. Kayode Alabi, had at a press briefing on Wednesday and various jingles on Radio stations ordered the people of the state to stay at home as from yesterday(Friday).
He also ordered the closure of all motor parks, markets, mosques and churches while taxi and okada operators, markets and social engagements activities have been suspended with immediate effect.
The development, it was gathered, prompted residents of the state to storm markets on Thursday to stock foods ahead of the stay at home order.
The popular markets in Yoruba roads, Oja Tuntun Market in Surulere and other markets were overfilled with people who were in a rush to purchase food items.
THISDAY investigations further revealed that, prices of all the food items were unusually expensive leading to lamentations by customers.
All the banks in Taiwo Road, Unity area, Post Office and Muritala areas were overcrowded with customers who were eager to cash their money to stock foods as the stay at home directives had been declared indefinite.
