Senator Lauds Buhari for N10bn Special Grant to Lagos
A member of the National Assembly, Senator Olamilekan Adeola, has lauded President Muhammadu Buhari for the special grant of N10 billion given to Lagos State to fight the dreaded Coronavirus pandemic.
Senator Adeola, who is the Chairman, Senate committee on Finance, in a one-page statement yesterday also reiterated his earlier call for a special status to be accorded Lagos as a former administrative capital of Nigeria.
The ranking Senator representing Lagos West senatorial district stressed that the grant was much needed at this time to compliment the untiring efforts of Lagos State Government under Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu in stemming the tide of the viral infection in the mega city.
His words: “I want to specially thank Mr. President for the grant of
N10 billion to Lagos State for the fight against COVID-19. The grant is not only merited on the basis of the pioneering and continuing role of Lagos State in combating the scourge of the deadly virus but in terms of the massive and concentrated population of Lagos State estimated at over 20 million of all tribes in Nigeria.”
The Senator called on all Nigerians to as much as possible adhere to precautionary medical directives from all relevant authorities including social distancing and staying at home for a period to stem the tide of the disease.
According to him, the pandemic has once again thrown into bold relief the status of Lagos as not only the commercial and economic nerve centre of Nigeria but the need for a special status and funding for Lagos State in the constitution as the former capital of Nigeria.
