Insecurity: Betsy Obaseki Leads Edo Women to Pray for Peace in Nigeria

- Adibe Emenyonu

The wife of Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki; Mrs Betsy Obaseki has held prayer sessions with women across the state for the peace and security of the country. The prayer sessions were held at Government House in Benin City and the Benin Central Mosque where the women prayed against the insecurity and criminality in the country.

Mrs Obaseki while addressing the Christian women prayer session at the Government House expressed optimism that Nigeria is on the path to greatness in spite of her current challenges.

She therefore called on women to remain steadfast in their faith, believing the blissful prophecies spoken concerning the nation.

The Edo State First Lady also made a call for repentance from destructive vices that precede the doom of a people and called for national unity in the place of prayers.

To buttress her assertion was a scriptural reading by the Wife of the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Pastor Cecilia Kure from 2nd Chronicles 7:14, which stressed the need for humble supplication and repentance as necessary for the restoration of a people.

In a similar prayer session by Muslim women at the Central Mosque in Benin, President of the Federation of Muslim Women Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN), Hajiya Rabi Abiri in an interview, shortly after the prayers, described the gathering as a good and welcomed development.

She said Mrs Obaseki's call to prayer confirmed the mutual disposition of the groups in attendance, towards the general good of the people.

She also reiterated the appeal for repentance and request for God's mercy and subsequent supplication of peace to Nigeria.

The prayer meetings were held in response to a national requests by the Nigerian Governors' Wives Forum (NGWF).
