Hydro Returns with ‘My Turn’
Owerribasedsinger,AguUchenna Leonard, better known as Hydro, has returned with a sophomore single; ‘My Turn.’ ProducedbyKayceyogan,the afro-popsongisavailableonall digitalstreamingplatforms.AlthoughasoloartistewhohailsfromAwommanma inImoState,Hydroispresentlyafinalyearstudent ofAgricultureandBio-ResourceEngineeringat theFederalUniversityofTechnology,FUTO.
Hydro has earlier released an Afro-pop love songtitled“Tire”producedbyBale.Thesongwas widely received by music aficionados amongst Nigerian college students. Also talented insoccerandarchitecturaldrawing,Hydro considers himself one of Nigeria’s best upcomingsingers.
He said: “I have always wanted to bring songs to the world that will simply take over. That’s why my sophomore single is called ‘My Turn.’ I think that this is my own turntobringgoodstuffinformofNigerian music to the world. I have my own sound and style. Listen, we cannot be two in this world;anothersingerlikemenodey.I’mnot sayingI’mthebest,but,truthis,I’mthebest inmyownstyle.“
Thetrack‘MyTurn’hasinspirationaland motivatinglyricslaidoverAfro-popbeats,a genrethathasbeengainingglobalrecognition,thankstoBurnaBoy,Wizkid,Davidoand other frontline Nigerian artistes. Written inWestAfricanPidginEnglish,Hydrohas established a way to use his mid-tempo but rhythmic music to address trending streettopics.
Inhissong,‘MyTurn,’thesingerstrivesto appealtonoblevirtuesinhislistenersrather than popular culture of vices. A line in the songseemstosummarizethesubstanceofthetrack; “If them like, make them do ‘dorime,’ I go dey wait for myturn…”herepeatsinthechorusofthesong.That hook seems to highlight the need for contentment in the face of flashy things and shiny objects in his messageofself-belief.
