Nwabali Set to Dump Chippa United in Summer

-

Super Eagles and Chippa United goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, could have a new club in the summer as revealed by the club’s owner in a recent interview.

The 27-year-old goalie was a surprise inclusion in Jose Peseiro’s Super Eagles AFCON 2023 squad, but he made the most of the opportunity as he displaced Francis Uzoho as Nigeria’s number one, keeping four clean sheets in seven games as Nigeria claimed the silver medal in Ivory Coast.

His performances in Ivory Coast showcased his talent to the entire world as the former Enyimba International goalkeeper drew interest from clubs in South Africa, Europe and Saudi Arabia.

Soccernet.ng earlier reported that Belgian side, Union SaintGilloise, England’s Queens Park Rangers, Saudi Pro League outfit, Al-Ettifaq, and South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs are looking to swoop on Nwabali in the summer. Chippa United’s CEO, Siviwe Mpengesi in a recent interview, confirmed that his club is in talks with other clubs as regards Nwabali’s future after the 1.97m tall goalkeeper revealed he won’t be renewing his contract with the Chilli Boys this summer.

“We are talking to a few clubs abroad. We also believe that he needs something better, especially after the performance that he showed at the Afcon. You know, being number two, they were runner-ups, he was number two, second best goalkeeper of Afcon, so if the opportunity comes especially abroad, of course even if it comes locally and the offer is for him, it’s not even for us. If the offer for him is better then we will not hold on to him,” Mpengesi told iDiski Times.
