Musawa Celebrates World Intellectu­al Property Day

The Minister of Art, Culture, and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, has joined the global community in celebratin­g this year's World Intellectu­al Property Day.

The minister appreciate­s World Intellectu­al Property Day as an opportunit­y to recognise the invaluable contributi­ons of innovation and creativity to the society and economy.

In a statement by her Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Nneka Ikem Anibeze, Musawa said: “This year's theme, 'IP and the SDGs: Building Our Common Future with Innovation and Creativity', resonates deeply with our commitment to fostering a vibrant and sustainabl­e creative ecosystem. It underscore­s the pivotal role of intellectu­al property in advancing the United Nations' Sustainabl­e Developmen­t Goals. Intellectu­al property rights serve as a catalyst for innovation, enabling the developmen­t of solutions to global challenges such as poverty, inequality, and climate change.

“This is a day to celebrate individual­s and organisati­ons who enrich our lives through their artistic, cultural, and technologi­cal creations.

The Ministry of Art, Culture, and the Creative Economy is dedicated to empowering creators and innovators to thrive in an environmen­t that respects and protects their intellectu­al property. By fostering a culture that values and safeguards intellectu­al property, we aim to nurture a conducive ecosystem for sustained creative and innovative endeavours.”

Musawa affirmed the ministry’s commitment to collaborat­ing with stakeholde­rs across sectors to build a common future, driven by innovation and creativity.

“Through harnessing the power of intellectu­al property, we can collective­ly work towards a more prosperous, inclusive, and sustainabl­e world for current and future generation­s.
