Urban Woman Magazine

Editor’s Note

- Blessing Iyamadiken Editor in Chief URBAN WOMAN

Child marriage affects a lot of girls in the North, however, it is ignored largely because the media does not adequately cover this topic. It is depressing to find out that it is a norm among majority of the northerners in Nigeria, to give away their "girl-child" in marriage at the age of 9.

The articles in this edition largely broach "Child Marriage" and "Sexual Abuse".

In this edition, we would be exploring the various opinions of women on these topics. In the Feature story, a young lady, Kaka Yakura from Borno state in Northern Nigeria shares with Urban Woman Magazine how she was almost married out at a tender age. The editorial is not left out as we would be answering the question: Can one feel pleasure while being sexually assaulted? You would be made to understand how it is possible that a person may feel pleasure when being abused; and how we do a great disservice to them when we imply that they weren't abused.

In this edition, we feature Ufuoma Mcdermott, she starred in a stage play, Hear Word, produced by Iopeneye. Hear Word! was a play that brought to light issues affecting women, which include Child Marriage. In this edition however, Mrs Ufuoma would be sharing how she is able to connect with her audience on set, such that they feel what she is feeling at every point in time. That is not all she would be sharing with us, as we are dying to hear about her life in general, future plans and so much more. Also featured is mogul woman behind the brand "Hair By Wanneka", Mrs Nwanneka Nkumah; and, South African Actress Mohau Cele who started in MTV Base Shuga as Bongi.

This edition is packed with so much that one cannot begin to unravel the details on here. All I can say at this point is, HAPPY READING!
