Poetry By Seun Lari Williams
Of course I took her
To the finest restaurant in Lagos And we sat amongst
Both the rich and the famous There was no sight at all
Of any of my friends or neighbors (That is how I knew
They were either rich or famous)
It was a perfect night To propose to my queen
I'd Googled the best way To make this the best thing And I'd spent six months' salary On a tiny diamond ring
We are talking about:
"My woman, my everything!" But perhaps I should have Done like it was 1993
One knee up, one knee down And a "will you marry me?" But I didn't do that.
I put it in her drink.
She swallowed the ring.
The End.
