Her Excellency, Lady Valerie Ebe, A/Ibom State Deputy Governor
The hardworking and dedicated Lady Valerie Ebe was born on March 26, 1947 to the family of late Obong Paul Bassey. She hails from Mkpat Enin in Uyo local government area. Lady Ebe started her primary and secondary education at Holy Child Primary and Secondary School in Calabar, Cross River State, where she obtained the West African School Certificate (WASC). She proceeded to University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History/ Archeology. Years later, she attended the University of Uyo where she bagged a degree in law and proceeded to the Nigerian Law School for the mandatory one year programme.
Lady Ebe’s active political career began when she was made the Akwa Ibom State Legal Adviser of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), a position she held for four consecutive years. She also held several positions afterwards, including commissioner of environment and mineral resources, commissioner culture and tourism, national legal adviser, and the voice of Niger Delta women. She was also the founder of Akwa Ibom Women’s League (AKIWOL).
Politics was a passion for her right from time because she was a student activist during her university days but never thought one day she would become the first female deputy governor in Akwa Ibom. Her success story is as a result of hard work, commitment, loyalty, humility, patience and perseverance through trials and challenges. She was married to late Mkpisong Maurice Ebe and she is blessed with children and grandchildren.
