It is still a shock. It is embarrassing news. I read about the erection of a N500m worth bronze statue of the current South African President, Jacob Zuma, in Imo state, Nigeria. Most people have seen the project as evil from a social and cultural point of view. As a finance researcher I want to view it from the economic point of view. My questions to the supporters of this project are: Is this one of the developmental projects Imo State needs at the moment, is it an investment project, and how much economic returns would this project generate in Imo State in the short and long run? Also, how can this project improve the life of an average Imo indigene?
I am so disappointed that Rochas Okorocha does not know the priorities of the state. We need radical development in terms of infrastructure. There are no good roads, no well-established and functioning industries, universities and so on. Today in Imo State, pensioners are crying, civil servants are groaning, and teachers are lamenting.
