46 DIE OF MENINGITIS IN KATSINA

Forty-six deaths have been reported in Katsina State since the recent outbreak of Cerebrospi­nal Meningitis in the state, a social media officer of the World Health Organisati­on (WHO), Umole Elfrida, said yesterday.

Elfrida said in a statement that the state had recorded about 713 suspected cases of the disease. She said the WHO in collaborat­ion with the state Primary Health Care Developmen­t Agency and other partners had conducted CSM vaccinatio­n for five days to check the outbreak.

“The retroactiv­e vaccinatio­n was carried out in four local government­s of Bindawa, Mani, Kurfi and Jibia. The exercise was carried out after training of teams and sensitizat­ion of the community,” she said.
