Forty-six deaths have been re­ported in Katsina State since the re­cent out­break of Cere­brospinal Menin­gi­tis in the state, a so­cial me­dia of­fi­cer of the World Health Or­gan­i­sa­tion (WHO), Umole El­frida, said yes­ter­day.

El­frida said in a state­ment that the state had recorded about 713 sus­pected cases of the disease. She said the WHO in col­lab­o­ra­tion with the state Pri­mary Health Care De­vel­op­ment Agency and other part­ners had con­ducted CSM vac­ci­na­tion for five days to check the out­break.

“The retroac­tive vac­ci­na­tion was car­ried out in four lo­cal gov­ern­ments of Bin­dawa, Mani, Kurfi and Jibia. The ex­er­cise was car­ried out af­ter train­ing of teams and sen­si­ti­za­tion of the com­mu­nity,” she said.
