As they begin to campaign

The idea behind occupying public office in civilized societies is to serve the people. It is not to enrich oneself, or arrogate to yourself all the powers as if you are the owner of the world. It is not to embezzle public funds or misappropriate government funds or projects. But all too often, that is what comes across in Nigeria, resulting in a polluted society. As the political parties begin campaigns in earnest for next year’s elections, let us open our eyes to pick candidates who will stand by their words during the campaigns, and not those who soon after the elections begin to sing a different song. Let the votes count, and let the people decide who occupies what office, not being hand-picked by a few.
