The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Bu­ratai, yes­ter­day, con­firmed that the armed forces have sta­bilised the Baga sit­u­a­tion af­ter in­sur­gents con­tested it but lost con­trol.

Gen. Bu­ratai told a news con­fer­ence in Maiduguri that the Boko Haram in­sur­gents were flushed out from Baga Town in the north­ern part of Borno State.

Bu­ratai, who was rep­re­sented by the Chief of Train­ing and Op­er­a­tions (Army), Maj. Gen. Lamidi Adeo­sun, said a mop up op­er­a­tion was on­go­ing in the area.

He said, “As we speak, we have taken con­trol of Baga and we have been able to sta­bilise the area. So Baga is not in the hands of Boko Haram. I say again, Baga is not in the hands of Boko Haram. They con­tested it but lost the con­test.”
