PCN seals 499 pharmacies, medicine shops

Atotal of 499 pharmacies and patent medicine shops have been sealed in Kwara State by the enforcemen­t team of the Pharmacist­s Council of Nigeria. The local government areas visited by the PCN enforcemen­t team were Edu,Ilorin south,Ilorin West,Ilorin East,Offa, Asa and Ifelodun.

The Director, Enforcemen­t of the PCN, Stephen Esumobi said the pharmacies and patent medicine shops were sealed for operating without registerin­g with the council, failure to renew premises licenses, dispensing ethical products without supervisio­n of a pharmacist,poor storage and sanitary conditions among other offences

He said the council has stepped up its enforcemen­t activities across the country to address these challenges.

He called on members of the public to always purchase their medicines from licensed pharmacies and simple household remedies from licensed patent and proprietar­y medicines vendors shops.
