Myan­mar’s for­eign di­rect in­vest­ment c. fell by around USD 900 mil­lion in 2017-18 om­pared to 2016-17.

In the 2017-18, Myan­mar re­ceived USD 5.7 bil­lion for 222 projects. By com­par­i­son, i. the coun­try re­ceived USD 6.6 bil­lion for 135 nvest­ments the year be­fore.

Around a third of the in­vest­ment was into c. the in­dus­trial sec­tor, while real es­tate and on­struc­tion ab­sorbed around 22%.

In­vest­ments came from 28 coun­tries: with t. China, the Nether­lands, Ja­pan, South Korea, he UK and the US among the top in­vestors.

In the first two months of this fi­nan­cial year, in April and May 2018, for­eign di­rect c. in­vest­ment was only USD 200 mil­lion om­pared to USD 700 mil­lion.

Most of the in­vest­ment this year came from ASEAN and Asia: China, Korea, Ja­pan and Hong Kong, with Sin­ga­pore the top in­vestor f. -- though much of that was also orig­i­nally rom China

Ac­cord­ing to DICA, there are more than 50,000 lo­cal com­pa­nies and 7,000 for­eign com­pa­nies cur­rently reg­is­tered in Myan­mar.
