Asyad Group, and International Road Transport Union, the world road transport organisation, signed a partnership agreement on Tuesday

Asyad, Oman’s logistics group, has been selected to host the World Congress 2018 in Muscat.

Asyad, Oman’s national logistics group, and International Road Transport Union (IRU), the world road transport organisation, signed a partnership agreement on Tuesday to host the IRU World Congress in Muscat next year.

The partnership was signed by Eng Abdulrahman bin Salem al Hatmi, CEO, Asyad and Umberto de Pretto, secretary general, IRU at a ceremony held at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, under the patronage of H E Ahmed bin Nasser bin Hamad al Mehrzi, Minister of Tourism.

The IRU World Congress, to be held in Muscat from November 6 to 8 next year, will bring together industry and government leaders from around the world to tackle trade challenges in both goods and passenger transport.

H E Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Salim al Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communications stated in his tweet, “Oman's selection, from among more than 100 countries, to host the IRU World Congress 2018 reflects the status of the sultanate and IRU’s growing confidence in the logistics potential of Oman.”

Eng Hatmi said, “Having the World Congress in Oman for the first time makes this event exceptionally important. The event not only serves as a welcome to the logistics sector but also allows more members of the government to meet and interact with industry leaders, thus strengthening the working relationship between them.”

Oman’s strategic location as a trade hub and its dynamic investment strategy to become a logistics leader over the coming years, both regionally and globally, makes it an ideal venue for engaging transport and trade leaders from around the world at the congress.

“IRU is extremely pleased to be working together with Asyad and the Omani government to bring the IRU World Congress to Muscat,” said Pretto.
