-

Waljat College of Applied Sciences in academic partnership with Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi, India, organised an induction programme for national cyber talent competition in coordination with ITA.

Mr Eslam, Trend Micro strategic partner, gave an induction programme to students from Computer Science and Electronics & Communication Engineering. He briefly introduced about the upcoming CTFOman (Capture the Flag) cybersecurity competition which will be held on November 11 at Sultan Qaboos University.

The information germane to the competition was discussed like the type of questions that will be asked and the websites from where they can get useful study materials and practice for the same. He had also shown a detailed demonstration of a website that can be used for preparing the students for the competition.

Amal Said al Mashaikhi and Aziza Khalfan al Rashdi from the Oman National Computer Emergency Readiness Team (OCERT) were also present to introduce the students to different ambassador programmes they offer.

They encouraged all the students to enrol as an academic ambassador and briefly discussed the various privileges that the students can benefit from. It is a fantastic platform for students to access various newsletters and other materials for free and also make themselves aware of the different cybercrimes or cybersecurity-related issues around the world.

Apart from this, the OCERT also encourages students to come up with new security-related ideas for which they could provide support by sponsoring in the best way they could.

Both the sessions proved to be fruitful for the students.
