18 portraits of His Majesty the Sultan on display at ROHM exhibition
Muscat - The Royal Opera House Muscat (ROHM) held a formal opening ceremony on Sunday for ‘Qaboos’, an exhibition of 18 portraits of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said for the 47th National Day celebrations.
The ceremony was held under the patronage of H H Sayyid Kamil Fahad Mahmood al Said, assistant secretary general for the Cabinet of the Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers and member of the Board of Directors, Royal Opera House Muscat.
The exhibition is in line with Royal Opera House Muscat’s mission to support emerging young Omani artists, stated a press release.
It is the first solo exhibition of homegrown artist Shaker Jalal, winner of the National Portrait of His Majesty Competition in 2015.
Shaker has been painting and studying His Majesty the Sultan since 2004 and the exhibition is a culmination of over a decade of dedication to the subject.
His portraiture is a study in hyper realism and his canvases display an unerring eye for detail and colour, capturing His Majesty the Sultan’s likeness with stunning accuracy.
Jalal has been representing Oman on an international scale for a number of years.
In 2014, he was part of an exhibition in Brazil and in 2015 in the UAE.
The main lobby of the Royal Opera House will act as a gallery for the exhibition, with the 18 large scale portraits displayed on easels.
Information about the artist will be available as part of the exhibition and the artist himself will curate the show.
The exhibition will run from November 13 to 25 and is open from Saturday to Thursday from 8.30am till 5.30pm.
