Sri Lankan community to celebrate Sinhala and Tamil New Year
Muscat - Sinhala and Tamil New Year is a national festival which has been celebrated in Sri Lanka for many centuries and by all Sri Lankans around the globe.
The Sri Lankan Community Social Club in Oman in collaboration with the Sri Lankan Embassy in Muscat have been organising this event every year. Once again, they have come forward to organise this festival on Friday at Muscat Club Ground in Wadi Kabir.
According to a press release, over 2,500 Sri Lankans from all over Oman are expected to come and enjoy the day. The chief guest for the event will be H E M K Pathmanathan, Sri Lankan Ambassador to Oman.
The main highlights of the festival are traditional food, dances, games and rituals of goodwill. The event will start in the morning with the traditional New Year proceedings and breakfast followed by the traditional New Year games of Sri Lanka, open to all Sri Lankan children and adults residing in Oman.
The evening will see a colourful and traditional dance show and a beauty contest to choose the New Year Queen (Avurudhu Kumari Pageant Show). There will also be a live musical entertainment show at night with the participation of popular Sri Lankan artistes.
