Over 80 volunteers dedicate 50 hours to clean Ras al Ruwais beach in Mahout

-

More than 80 volunteers of Sawarah team conducted a beach cleaning campaign at the Ras al Ruwais beach recently.

The initiative organised by the Ministry of Social Development in coordination with the Sawarah team in the wilayat of Mahout in Al Wusta governorate was held from March 29-31.

Mudhi Abdallah Abdul Rahman al Balushi, a member of Sawarah team said, “More than 80 volunteers of our team along with the residents of Ras al Ruwais conducted a campaign to clean Ras al Ruwais beach. The main aim of the initiative was to spread the message of environment conservation among people.”

The team promoted the initiative through social media before it started. “We promoted the campaign before it was launched through the social media so that more people can get associated with it and more can realise the gravity of the situation. We used the hashtag ‘50 hours of work for the environment’ as the campaign was held for 50 hours with the support of Oman LNG Development Foundation and residents of the area,” Mudhi said.

The Ras al Ruwais beach sees many turtles and rare birds and thus it is important that we keep the area clean, she added.

Highlighting the importance of preserving nature and its beauty, Mudhi said, “We believe photography is a powerful medium, but it is more important to keep a place clean than just take its picture. We need to ensure that the beauty of an area is preserved.”

She also wished that all members of the community participate in such activities that are aimed at preservation of beaches, coasts and the protection of environment.
