Swift Sword-3 exercise offers training opportunity to local media: Officials
The Omani-British Joint Exercise - Swift Sword-3 - scheduled in October is an opportunity for local media to engage in dealing with defence matters. This emerged during a discussion held on Thursday by the Ministry of Information organised in coordination with the Ministry of Defence and media personnel.
The meeting was attended by H E Dr Abdulmunim bin Mansour bin Said al Hasani, Minister of Information, who stressed the importance of the media in the success of event. “The media should take advantage of the exercises,” he said.
Brig Hassan bin Ali al Mujaini, head of moral guidance in the Sultan’s Armed Forces, said the ex- ercise is being held for the benefit of all in the country including media. “The exercise will benefit the media in its objectives including equipping the local media personnel with all kinds of training. It is an opportunity for both government and private sector media to engage in such activities that happen once in a while,” he said.
On his part, H E Ali bin Khalfan al Jabri, Undersecretary in the Ministry of Information, addressed the procedures for the necessary permits for media personnel to take part in the exercise. “According to the plan, media coverage of the exercises will be guided by the Ministry of Information,” he said.
A media centre will be set up which will be the official channel of communication between the media and defence officials.
