Sultanate participates in FAO’s food security committee meet in Rome
Rome, Italy - The sultanate, represented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, is participating in the 45th session of the Food and Agriculture Organization’s (FAO) Committee on World Food Security (CFS), being held in Rome from October 15-19. The sultanate’s delega- tion is being led by H E Dr Fuad bin Ja’afar bin Mohammed al Sajwani, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries.
It included a discussion on organisational and policy issues at regional and global levels on food security, nutrition, the risk of food insecurity and malnutrition, and the relationship between migration, agriculture and rural development.
H E Dr Sajwani also met Dr José Graziano da Silva, director general of FAO, where they dicussed joint and future projects to be held in the sultanate. They also discussed the sultanate’s path in line with the achievement of the 2030 sustainable development goals, including the eradication of hunger and poverty and facing new global challenges related to climate change, conflicts and migration and the role of private and civil partnerships in the elimination of hunger.
The director general of FAO said he was looking forward to visiting Oman in January 2019 and participate in the conference of agricultural and fisheries investment.
