Oman takes part in Ash­ga­bat con­fer­ence on Silk Road and its fu­ture devel­op­ment

Ash­ga­bat, Turk­menistan - The sul­tanate, rep­re­sented by the Min­istry of Her­itage and Cul­ture (MHC), par­tic­i­pated in the two­day in­ter­na­tional con­fer­ence on ‘The Silk Road: Cur­rent and Fu­ture Devel­op­ment’ in Ash­ga­bat, Turk­menistan which con­cluded on Fri­day.

MHC was rep­re­sented in the con­fer­ence by Rahma bint Qasim al Far­siyah, direc­tor gen­eral of mu­se­ums.

The con­fer­ence comes within the frame­work of the in­ter­est that many coun­tries have be­gun to show to the Silk Road sys­tem. Also, the sul­tanate is an ac­tive mem­ber of the Silk Road Project ini­tia­tives, in par­tic­u­lar its suc- cess in host­ing the fourth meeting of the Un­esco In­ter­na­tional Net­work for the Silk Road Platform. It has been in­vited to this con­fer­ence as one of the five coun­tries sup­port­ing the Silk Road Dig­i­tal Platform along­side China, Ger­many, Kaza­khstan and Azer­bai­jan.

In ad­di­tion, the pres­ence of the sul­tanate in this con­fer­ence added to the im­por­tance rep­re­sented by the Silk Roads in the his­tory and her­itage of Oman.

The con­fer­ence brought to­gether min­is­ters, high-level rep­re­sen­ta­tives and ex­perts from some 47 coun­tries. The con­fer­ence aimed at high­light­ing the im­por­tance of the Silk Road for sus­tain­able devel­op­ment; dis­cussing the po­ten­tial of the Silk Road’s com­mon her­itage to pro­mote in­ter­cul­tural di­a­logue and in­ter­na­tional co­op­er­a­tion in to­day’s so­ci­eties, pro­vid­ing a platform to exchange ex­pe­ri­ence, ex­per­tise in achiev­ing the 2030 agenda.
