Oman takes part in Ashgabat conference on Silk Road and its future development
Ashgabat, Turkmenistan - The sultanate, represented by the Ministry of Heritage and Culture (MHC), participated in the twoday international conference on ‘The Silk Road: Current and Future Development’ in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan which concluded on Friday.
MHC was represented in the conference by Rahma bint Qasim al Farsiyah, director general of museums.
The conference comes within the framework of the interest that many countries have begun to show to the Silk Road system. Also, the sultanate is an active member of the Silk Road Project initiatives, in particular its suc- cess in hosting the fourth meeting of the Unesco International Network for the Silk Road Platform. It has been invited to this conference as one of the five countries supporting the Silk Road Digital Platform alongside China, Germany, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan.
In addition, the presence of the sultanate in this conference added to the importance represented by the Silk Roads in the history and heritage of Oman.
The conference brought together ministers, high-level representatives and experts from some 47 countries. The conference aimed at highlighting the importance of the Silk Road for sustainable development; discussing the potential of the Silk Road’s common heritage to promote intercultural dialogue and international cooperation in today’s societies, providing a platform to exchange experience, expertise in achieving the 2030 agenda.
