Uttaranchal Cultural Evening enthralls audience
The enthusiasm of the organisers and the performers was at its peak at the 13th annual cultural event of Uttaranchal wing of Indian Social Club (ISC) Oman. The 2018 version of annual cultural event was held recently in the club’s multipurpose hall with a range of performances prepared by the talented members of the wing.
The theme, ‘ Celebrations’, was based on popular poems and songs representing Himalayan beauty, rich vegetation, serene environment, gurgling rivers and on top of it, the utmost simplicity of people celebrating life with joy.
The cultural event held annually was organised to bring together the local talents and entertain the members of the Uttaranchal Wing of ISC, who largely belong to the North Indian state of Uttarakhand.
The event, true to the nature of state culture, began with a prayer followed by yoga by chil- dren, dance performance by the children, before a welcome speech by the convener of the wing Govind Negi, who thanked all the participants and admired their enthusiasm of completing the preparation in a very short time. He also thanked the members and the invitees for attending the programme in large numbers. They hoped to present more programmes of such nature in the coming year. This was followed by a string of ‘folk dance’, ‘couple dance’, ‘fusion dance’ by the young members, who have been working hard for months to present an event packed with cultural entertainment.
The chief guest C M Sardar, vice chairman of ISC and popular leader in the community, in his speech appreciated organisers for the format of the cultural event and shared few interesting facts about the ‘Devbhoomi’ (the land of Gods), the name Uttaranchal state is popularly known by.
Dr Rakesh Belwal, a senior member of the wing and an as- sociate professor of Business in Oman for the past 11 years, elucidated chronology of historical events that took place in state and how the state has evolved to the present form. He also shed some light on the historical facts of Uttarakhand region and its contribution in the Indian Freedom Movement. He enlightened the audience citing the lyrics of the famous folk songs and provided a descriptive account of the cultural events, folk, and theatres from the region.
