2019 Tour of Oman starts on Feb 16 from Al Sawadi Beach

192km Shatti al Qurum-Quriyat stage to be longest one

To be held in six stages, 18 teams will take part in this edition of the tour; of these, six are from France and three from Belgium

The 2019 edition of Tour of Oman will begin at Al Sawadi Beach in Barka on February 16.

A Muscat Municipali­ty official said that the 138.5km distance from Al Sawadi Beach in Barka to Sohar Corniche is expected to be covered in around three and a half hours. The second stage will see cyclists start the tour at Royal Cavalry Oman in Seeb and end at Al Bustan in Muscat. The 158km distance is expected to be covered in around four hours.

The official said that the third and longest stage of the tour (192km) will begin in Shatti al Qurum and end five hours later in Quriyat. The fourth stage of the tour will be held from Yiti (Al Sifah) to Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre. The 125km distance is expected to be covered in three and a half hours.

The penultimat­e and fifth stage will begin in Samail and conclude in Jebel Akhdar. The 152km distance will be covered in three and a half hours.

The Muscat Municipali­ty official said that the last stage will begin from Al Mouj Muscat at 11am and conclude three hours and 20 minutes later at Muttrah Corniche. This stage will cover over 135.5km.

Altogether 18 teams will take part in this year’s Tour of Oman. Of these, six are from France and three from Belgium.
