Over 90,000 vehicles recalled since 2014: PACP
More than 90,000 vehicles were recalled from 2014 up to the end of 2018. This was revealed at a seminar organised by the Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) on Sunday.
The seminar titled ‘Vehicle recall and its role in road safety’ was held at Grand Millennium Muscat under the auspices of H E Sheikh Khalid bin Omar bin Said al Marhoon, Minister of Civil Service. It covered major technical issues related to vehicle recall. H E Sheikh Marhoon stressed the importance of the seminar in raising awareness among relevant parties towards technical defects.
Dr Said bin Khamis al Kaabi, chairman of PACP, said that the authority is very strict in vehicle recall and repair in cooperation with auto dealers in the sultanate. He added that during the period from 2014 up to the end of 2018, more than 90,000 vehicles were recalled.
Saud bin Nasser al Khusaibi, secretary general of GCC Standardization Organization, said that vehicle recall is one of the rights of the consumers and that the authority plays a role in this area by issuing conformity certificates for the vehicles, tyres and motorbikes.
The seminar included a num- ber of working papers on improving vehicle safety, vehicle recall system and the efforts made by PACP to raise awareness.
The European programme for vehicle assessment presented a working paper on consumer and vehicle safety. Zawawi Trading Company presented its experience in vehicle recall. A website dedicated to vehicle recall too was launched at the event.
