ment of 129 ranks in a single year. In ‘Trading across Borders’, India’s rank improved by 66 positions moving from 146 in 2017 to 80 in 2018. The changes in six indicators where India improved its rank are as follows: Today, India has one of the most liberal Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) regimes in the world. More than 90 per cent of the FDI approvals have been put on automatic route i.e. without need for prior government approval. The government has put in place a FDI policy framework which is transparent, predictable and easily comprehensible. Recent trends in India’s FDI inflow endorse its status as a preferred investment destination amongst global investors. India is among the top ten FDI destinations listed by the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). It received about US$62bn in 2017-18. Annual FDI inflows in the country are expected to rise to US$75bn over the next five years, as per a report by UBS. It has become the most attractive emerging market for global partners investment for the coming 12 months, as per a recent market attractiveness survey conducted by Emerging Market Private Equity Association (EMPEA).

Top sectors attracting FDI equity flows are telecommunications, trading, computer hardware & software, automobile, metallurgy, chemicals, power, drugs and pharmaceuticals and construction. The world business community realises the lucrative opportunities for doing business with India in various sectors such as machinery, engineering products, auto components, space, aviation, biotechnology, telecommunications, information technology, construction, chemicals, apparels, pharmaceuticals, jewellery etc. Details on sector-wise investment opportunities in India are available at www.makein india.com/sectors.

Doing business with India has never been easier.
