Oman Sport and Environment Committee holds seminar on environmental sustainability
Oman Sport and Environment Committee held a seminar entitled ‘Sport and Environmental Sustainability’ at Oman Olympic Academy, under the patronage of Sayyid Khalid bin Hamad al Busaidi, OOC chairman.
It was held in the presence of Taha bin Sulaiman al Kushari, secretary general, and Mohammed bin Rashid al Sunaidi, Oman Sport and Environment Committee chairman, and numbers of students from Sultan
Qaboos University and Sohar University.
The seminar highlights the integration of the environmental dimension in sport and environmental practices to achieve the goals of sustainable development.
Sunaidi said, “Many countries worldwide are concerned with the issues of environment and sports as the top priorities. This is evident through the great role played by athletes in protecting the environment.”
Jihad bin Abdullah al Shaikh, member of the committee, and Dr Badriya bint Khalfan al Haddabiya, head of the Department of Physical Education, Sultan Qaboos University, and Dr Thoraya bint Saeed, assistant directorgeneral for Nature Conservation, Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs,presented papers.
