Omanisation rate rises 8% in three sectors, says MoM

-

Omanisation rates have been increasing in three sectors in the sultanate - industrial, travel and tourism and logistics - the Ministry of Manpower (MoM) has stated. These sectors saw an eight per cent increase this year as compared to 2017.

The ministry expects a further increase of 3.5 per cent in these three sectors by 2020, following its various programmes and strategies to boost Omanisation rate in the country.

The top performing sector was the travel and tourism sector achieving 43.1 per cent in 2019, an overall two per cent jump since 2017. The sector saw 41.1 per cent Omanisation in 2017 and 42.1 per cent in 2018.

The sector is expected to achieve 44.1 per cent Omanisation by 2020.

The industrial sector achieved 32.5 per cent Omanisation in 2017, 33 per cent in 2018, 34.5 per cent in 2019, an overall two per cent jump.

It is expected to achieve 35 per cent Omanisation by 2020.

The Omanisation rate in the logistics sector stood at 14 per cent in 2017, 16 per cent in 2018, 18 per cent in 2019, an overall four per cent jump.

The sector is expected to achieve 20 per cent Omanisation by 2020.

MoM seeks to empower Omanis in the private sector by following up the targeted Omanisation rates.

‘The implementation policy team ensures incentives are granted to private sector establishments that comply with the Omanisation standards, while these establishments are issued an achievement card.

‘Penalties and legal procedures are also imposed on establishments failing to comply with the targets,’ the ministry stated.
