ISC poetry group marks first anniversary
Poetry & Literary Group (PLG), under the aegis of the Indian Social Club (ISC) Oman with much fanfare gathered to celebrate its first anniversary, in the grand auditorium of the Indian Embassy on November 1.
H E Munu Mahawar, Ambassador of India to the Sultanate of Oman, graced the occasion as the chief guest and was gracious enough to present the mementos to all the reciting poets. General secretary, Babu Rajendran addressed the gathering and talked highly of the literary group with a difference.
Poetry & Literary Group, ISC initiated a Life Time Achievement Award for contribution in literature. The first proud recipient of the award was its convener, Tufail Ahmad, whose efforts in the field of poetry and literature has been exemplary. The ambassador presented him the trophy amidst great cheer and applaud.
Entertainment secretory, Indian Social Club, Suhail Khan was as usual supportive and he was felicitated by the chief guest for his special contribution towards the growth of PLG.
Tufail Ahmad, a renowned poet and convener of the Poetry and Literary Group, welcomed the guests and took them through the memoirs of brilliantly conducted monthly events in the past one year since the inception of the group.
Dr Tulika Mishra, the co-convener of PLG captivated the audience with her incredible hosting and her oratory skills with panache and élan. From welcoming the audience to introducing the poets with suitable and apt couplets for them and their work, to felicitating the chief guest and concluding the event, she had it all on point.
Altogether 26 poets recited their poems on stage in Hindi, English and in Urdu languages; ranging from various topics enthralling 300 plus audience and spell bound listeners, evoking in them various emotions of pain, anguish, joy, pride, nationality, compassion, etc.
Each one with their individual and distinct style left the audience wanting for more and making them oblivious of the passing time. It is worth mentioning here that two of the poets namely, Tufail Ahmad and Mustufa Durwesh have been on international stage for their poetry recitation before, and they again have been recently invited in another from Moradabad, India to be a part of an International Mushaira with very coveted poets.
One highlight of the evenings was the launch of the music album Nawazish, constituting ghazals written by the poet members of PLG, the lyrics of which were given music and voice by the famous and noted singer in Muscat, Vineet Pundit.
